[A] Here are links to five of my favorite web sites that I rely on all the time:

 - Google Finance (free)

** Google Finance has several nifty features, and the two I use the most are: (A) its unique price chart which also contains links to news stories that allows us to see (sometimes) why a stock went up or down; and (B) the chart’s upper, right corner where we can see, with one mouse click, the percent up or down of the stock’s price over 10 time periods.

- Wikinvest (free)

** Wikinvest has encyclopedic articles that explain 2025 companies, 86 industries, and 99 concepts, all of which are thoroughly researched and factually neutral, along with separate opinions on grounds to buy and sell the stock.

** Wikinvest’s thorough company articles are similar to Morningstar Premium except Mstar is usually a pay service (which I get free and online from my public library).

 - Bob Adams’ Annual Report Spreadsheet (free)

** This super-duper spreadsheet will retrieve and organize data from the latest A.R. into 23 headings and 9 pages of graphs, and all you have to do is just enter the stock’s ticker symbol.

** All numbers are briefly analyzed, there is a “mouse-over” explaining each financial term, a summary of the good and not-so-good findings, and even a section comparing the company to three peers/competitors and its industry.

** The latest version is 4.04 and you need Excel 2003 or later, but Bob’s website will help you get OpenOffice if you don’t have Excel.  You can also sign up for an e-mail alert when the spreedsheet is updated which happens frequently.

** In Octobet 2009, Bob led a week-long workshop on how to use and understand his spreadsheet which is available (starting with message #7) by clicking here.

** Help on downloading and using Bob’s spreadsheet is available by clicking here.

- Better Investing (30-day free trial, $79 per year)

** BI has a free Discussion List, primarily about growth stocks, where anyone can ask and answer questions.  Click here to register.

**The main benefits of a paid membership are the monthly magazine, monthly Online Stock Study, and SSG data from S&P.

- Stock Central (45-day free trial, $40 per year)

** SC has free Discussion Forums that are ticker based and where anyone can ask and answer questions (from its Home Page, click Community).

** It also has a free Research Links page and free workshops led by volunteers.  Here’s a link to the 4-session workshop I led.

** The main benefits of a paid membership are access to a Stock Screener, Ratio Analyzer, Take Stock, and SSG data from Morningstar (previously Hemscott).

[B] Here are links to five of my favorite posts that will tell you a lot about what and how I think, and how I analyze stocks:

- Measuring Medtonic (MDT)

- Pondering the Preferred Procedure

- Determining What’s Reasonable and What’s Not: An Update

- Studying Stryker (SYK) and Mulling Over Methods

- All About SSGs

If you like what you see so far, go to the Table of Contents (called the Home Page on the top tool bar and always kept as the latest post) and browse what interests you.

Thanks for visiting…..
