Workshop on Comparing SSGs for Staples, Procter & Gamble, Colgate-Palmolive, and CVS Caremark
May 31, 2008
I’mmmmm bakkkkkkk !! Did you miss me? <grin>
I was busy writing a lengthy, and hopefully thoughtful, workshop for the Stock Central website. The workshop was four sessions on “Comparing SSGs”, with each session focused on one Better Investing Online Stock Study.
This Online Stock Study is a new monthly feature for members of Better Investing and its purpose is to complete a SSG online (in about 60 minutes) on a different company each month. Respected BI gurus prepare a thorough discussion and the online participants make the judgment calls by consensus decision-making.
The stocks I reviewed were Staples (SPLS), Procter & Gamble (PG), Colgate-Palmolive (CL), and CVS Caremark (CVS).
For each of my four workshop sessions, I compared (1) the original Consensus SSG which used BI/S&P data; (2) an updated Consensus SSG with more current data and price, but with the same judgments; (3) my SSG with BI/S&P data; (4) my SSG with StockCentral/Hemscott data, but with my same judgments; and (5) Take Stock, a computerized program at Stock Central designed to produce a conservative result.
Soooooooooo, I compared the Consensus SSG to my SSG and to Take Stock; I compared S&P results to Hemscott results; I compared and evaluated the different judgments that each SSG made; and I also compared the SSGs long-term EPS estimates to what the analysts were estimating and the SSGs Forecast High Prices to what Value Line was estimating.
That’s a lot of comparing and alotta work!!
You can read the workshop sessions even if you’re not a member of Stock Central. Check out:
